Promoting a book online
Here at Book Boost, we are dedicated to helping non-fiction authors to navigate the process of publishing, and most importantly, promoting their book, so they can make the impact they deserve. Building an online presence is a key part of this, often referred to as building an author platform. In this blog, we consider the recommended steps to maximise your on-line presence.
1 - Create an author website. A professional author website is essential for promoting your book online. Use your website to showcase your expertise, share information about your book, and offer readers a way to purchase it. Include a blog to share insights related to your book's topic.
2 - Build an email list. Collect email addresses from your website visitors, social media followers, and event attendees. Send out regular newsletters with updates about your book, upcoming events, and promotions to help you build relationships with your audience and keep them engaged.
3 - Utilise Amazon Author Central. Amazon Author Central is a free tool that allows authors to create a profile page and add book descriptions, photos, and links to their website and social media profiles. Creating and updating your page is an important way to increase visibility and credibility on Amazon.
4 - Guest post on other blogs. Guest posting on other blogs is a collaborative way to reach a new audience and promote your book. Reach out to other bloggers in your niche and offer to write a guest post. Make sure to include a link to your website and book in your author bio.
5 - Use social media strategically. Social media is a powerful tool for authors when used strategically. Choose the platforms where your audience are found and engage with them regularly. Share updates about your book, offer insights related to your topic, and interact with your followers.
6 - Offer free content. Offering free content related to your book can be a helpful way to generate interest and encourage people to buy. Consider offering a free chapter, an excerpt, or a related guide that includes hints and tips taken from your book in exchange for an email address.
7 - Create video content. Video content is a powerful way to engage with your audience and promote your book. Consider creating a book trailer, recording a short video about your book's topic, or doing a virtual author event. You don't have to appear in the video yourself, if you find this daunting. Instead, you can use relevant images or slides. Share your video content on your website and social media platforms.
8 - Engage with your readers. Engaging with your readers is key to building a loyal audience. Respond to comments and messages on social media, participate in online discussions related to your topic, and offer to speak to book clubs or groups interested in your book's topic.
As part of the Book Boost membership community, we provide regular training and other input to help you bring these tips to life. It takes focus and a consistent approach to effectively promote a non-fiction book online and connect with your community of ideal readers. Remember, it's important to be authentic, consistent, and persistent in your marketing efforts, and to always be looking for new ways to engage with your readers.
